Mom Chrystal on the Cycle of Trauma in Raising a Neurodiverse Child
Overview: Chrystal is an active military wife and mom - and this is important because every time she moves (and it's quite often), she loses her entire support system! Her child has struggled immensely, and Chrystal does a beautiful job of explaining the system of traumas (both little and big) that she goes through in her motherhood.
One of the most real and raw conversations I've had yet on the show, this one isn't to be missed.

Excerpt #1: "That's why I'm here, to tell people that it's okay that you're not okay. The trauma causes the guilt that causes the shame, and when you have the shame, you cannot be a confident mom."
Excerpt #2: "That's all your job is, is helping them discover how they can use their talents and you know, they're already the person they were meant to be. You're not trying to make them into something, like being a good parent means raising a good kid. You're not there to make them something. You're just there to be their guide. That's my only shred of advice..it's just, don't think that your job is to parent them in a certain way in order to make them a good kid. You're just trying to help them bloom, right? They're already good."
Excerpt #3: "As the mom, you're the one who usually spots these behaviors and notices they're not quite "average"/"normal" - whatever you want to call it. And so you're the one going down the rabbit holes, trying to find out what it is and how you can help them."
