Mom Kimberly Heilig on How to Mother Emotionally Gifted, 2E Kids With Positive Authority
Guys. I struggled to find the right title for this episode, because Kim dropped so many golden nuggets - how could I possibly represent all that she said in one sentence?
We talked ALL about raising 2E, neurodiverse kids. Specifically, we focused on:
-The importance of being an authority to our 2E kids (but in a positive way)
-How being inconsistent as a mom is often better than consistency
The importance of getting the PROPER help for your child - as sometimes the wrong kind of help is more damaging!
-How 2E kids have so many layers to them that the way we parent may benefit one layer and hurt another. It's all about balance.
-Our neurodiverse kids are often emotionally gifted - but just because they hold onto so much conscience-ness doesn't mean they SHOULD.

Overview: In this episode, I talk with mom Kim Heilig on raising 2E, neurodiverse kids with the right amount of forgiveness, grace, and authority.
Excerpt #1: “So before you look too hard at this thing, you find outlets, help, places where you can go and feel like yourself, with your own wiring. How can you help your kid with his own wiring if you lost sight of your own? Which is easy to do in motherhood for anyone, and is incredibly easy to do mothering neuro, A-typical kids. You matter so much in this process. More than you probably know.....but all of that hinges on you being able to listen to your own gut and intuition. And to be able to do that, standing against the millions of other voices through social media that are telling you a different way - that takes tremendous health. That takes tremendous energy. And so, there needs to be time and space in your day to show up for yourself. It's huge. The most important work you can do.”
Excerpt #2: I said to him, 'You know? There are things you know that I don't know. There are ways that you are so smart. But the truth is, you are still a kid. And in that design, you are meant to be the kid and I am meant to be the grownup, so you're going to have to choose, even with all the things you know, to trust me first, and it will go better for you, if you do.'
Excerpt #3: So much of the journey as a mother of 2E kids is recognizing those layers and figuring out how to put drops in the bucket of each one, and making your peace that you can't fill every bucket. And so to make those choices based off what buckets are easier for you to fill, and which ones aren't, is kind of a helpful thing.
